About

Family Service of Omaha, founded in 1875 as the Christian Workers Association, evolved from providing basic relief to comprehensive social services. Key milestones include its incorporation as Associated Charities in 1892, formalizing self-sufficiency training in 1909, and developing social work education with the University of Nebraska in 1941. The organization expanded services over decades, adding programs for child care, domestic abuse, youth violence, and homelessness. Notable initiatives include the “Safe Haven” shelter (1994), emergency shelters for abused children, and transitional housing. By 2000, it marked 125 years of serving vulnerable populations.
